01 / UNDERSTAND THE ROLE

What does a AWS Architect do?

AWS architects design workloads and foundations using Amazon Web Services. Their responsibilities can include account structure, IAM, VPC connectivity, compute selection, data services, resilience and migration. They connect application needs with a secure, operable AWS design.

The role matters because many valid AWS designs have very different cost and failure characteristics. Strong AWS architecture skills include knowing when a simpler managed service is sufficient and when a workload needs additional control or isolation.

  1. AWS Cloud Engineer
  2. Senior Cloud Engineer
  3. AWS Solutions Architect
  4. Principal AWS Architect
  5. Cloud Architecture Lead

02 / SKILL MAPPING

AWS Architect skills required

Map what you know, what you have applied and what you can demonstrate. Tools vary; sound judgement transfers.

Technical Skills

  • IAM, account boundaries, VPC routing and private connectivity
  • Availability, backup, disaster recovery and workload-specific scaling
  • Compute and data-service selection with explicit cost trade-offs

Soft Skills

  • Gather business constraints before choosing AWS services
  • Communicate shared-responsibility boundaries clearly
  • Write concise architecture decisions and handover documentation

Leadership Skills

  • Guide Well-Architected reviews into prioritised actions
  • Establish secure multi-account patterns and review exceptions
  • Support engineering teams through migration and operational readiness

Tools & Platforms

  • AWS IAM, Organizations, VPC and CloudTrail
  • EC2, ECS, EKS or Lambda; RDS, DynamoDB and S3 as appropriate
  • CloudFormation or Terraform, CloudWatch and AWS cost tools

03 / SKILL GAP ANALYSIS

Common AWS Architect skill gaps

Use these patterns to challenge your own evidence. They are development prompts, not findings about you or every person at a given level.

01

Junior

Memorising service names without understanding permissions, routing or failure boundaries.

02

Mid-Level

Designing a happy-path deployment without backup restore tests or least-privilege access.

03

Senior

Using advanced services without explaining operational complexity, spend or data consistency.

04

Lead

Owning architecture documents without driving review actions, platform adoption and risk ownership.

04 / CAREER READINESS FRAMEWORK

Know what the next level asks of you.

Readiness grows through scope, independence and evidence—not years alone. This qualitative framework is guidance, not a validated scoring instrument.

  1. 01

    Beginner

Build a small AWS workload and explain its identity and network access paths.

  2. 02

    Intermediate

Deploy a secure workload with infrastructure as code, monitoring and tested restore procedures.

  3. 03

    Advanced

Design multi-account or complex migration patterns and justify security, reliability and cost choices.

  4. 04

    Lead

Set AWS architecture standards across teams and build a repeatable process for reviewing trade-offs.

05 / JOBUP INTELLIGENCE REPORT

Turn your experience into a clearer next step.

The Skills Intelligence Platform for Technology Professionals and Employers. Start with skill mapping and gap analysis; build towards evidence-based career growth.

  1. Upload CV

Add a PDF CV to the existing Career Intelligence Dashboard. Describe your contribution, technologies and outcomes clearly.

  2. 02

    Analyze Experience

AI extracts the skills and experience described in your CV. Review the results: extraction can miss context or misinterpret a claim.

  3. 03

    Identify Gaps

Compare the extracted skills with available dashboard benchmarks, then use this role’s framework to prioritise further development.

  4. 04

    Measure Readiness

Interpret the CV-based match as a starting signal, not a validated measure of competence. Use practical evidence to assess what you can actually do.

  5. 05

    Build Skills Profile

Use your findings to plan stronger evidence and a focused learning roadmap. Verified assessments, a verified Skills Profile and recruiter discovery are planned.

ROLE QUESTIONS, CLEAR ANSWERS

AWS Architect career FAQs

Is an AWS certification enough to become an AWS architect?

A certification is useful knowledge evidence, but architecture roles also require practical design judgement. Complement study with projects showing networking, access control, failure recovery and cost decisions.

Does JobUp currently provide a verified AWS readiness score?

No. The current dashboard includes a broader Cloud Architect CV-based benchmark. It does not provide a verified AWS-specific practical assessment. Use this page’s framework to organise evidence while verification features are planned.

How should I prioritise gaps in AWS architecture skills?

Start with identity, networking and recovery because mistakes there can affect an entire workload. Then strengthen cost control and workload-specific service choices rather than trying to learn every AWS product.

What will JobUp show after I upload my CV from this AWS Architect page?

The dashboard currently compares CV evidence with Cloud Architect, Database Specialist and Engineering Lead benchmarks. These role hubs provide guidance, not ten separate live assessments. A CV-based skill match is not proof of ability or a verified readiness score. You can review extracted skills and use the available analysis and roadmap tools to plan development. Verified assessments, Skills Profiles and the recruiter marketplace are planned, not currently delivered by this upload.
