ROLE INTELLIGENCE / ENGINEERING MANAGER
Measure your skills, identify career gaps, and understand your readiness for today's most in-demand technology roles.
Start free with CV-based intelligence. Verified assessments are planned, not yet available.
01 / UNDERSTAND THE ROLE
Engineering managers are accountable for team effectiveness, people development and delivery conditions. Their work includes coaching, feedback, staffing, prioritisation and coordination with product and technical leaders. Some remain hands-on, but management is not simply a senior developer role with extra meetings.
The role matters because unclear expectations, unmanaged dependencies and poor feedback can undermine even a highly skilled team. Engineering manager readiness requires evidence of supporting people and creating sustainable outcomes, not only shipping your own projects.
Illustrative career paths, not required steps. Titles and scope differ between organisations.
02 / SKILL MAPPING
Map what you know, what you have applied and what you can demonstrate. Tools vary; sound judgement transfers.
03 / SKILL GAP ANALYSIS
Use these patterns to challenge your own evidence. They are development prompts, not findings about you or every person at a given level.
Helping peers informally without experience setting expectations or giving difficult feedback.
Coordinating delivery while avoiding people development, conflict or performance conversations.
Managing one team effectively but struggling with cross-team priorities, staffing and organisational change.
Relying on individual heroics rather than growing managers, succession plans and sustainable operating practices.
04 / CAREER READINESS FRAMEWORK
Readiness grows through scope, independence and evidence—not years alone. This qualitative framework is guidance, not a validated scoring instrument.
Practise mentoring and facilitation while learning the boundaries of formal people management.
Manage a small team with support, maintain regular feedback and create clear delivery expectations.
Develop people fairly, handle difficult situations and improve outcomes across team dependencies.
Grow other leaders and shape staffing, priorities and team structures around longer-term organisational needs.
05 / JOBUP INTELLIGENCE REPORT
The Skills Intelligence Platform for Technology Professionals and Employers. Start with skill mapping and gap analysis; build towards evidence-based career growth.
Add a PDF CV to the existing Career Intelligence Dashboard. Describe your contribution, technologies and outcomes clearly.
AI extracts the skills and experience described in your CV. Review the results: extraction can miss context or misinterpret a claim.
Compare the extracted skills with available dashboard benchmarks, then use this role’s framework to prioritise further development.
Interpret the CV-based match as a starting signal, not a validated measure of competence. Use practical evidence to assess what you can actually do.
Use your findings to plan stronger evidence and a focused learning roadmap. Verified assessments, a verified Skills Profile and recruiter discovery are planned.
06 / YOUR NEXT MOVE
Start with your experience. Find the gaps worth closing. Build evidence for the work you want to do next.

07 / FOR EMPLOYERS
Help shape evidence-based hiring. Recruiter discovery, verified assessments and verified talent profiles are planned capabilities—not a live marketplace.
Recruiter Early AccessROLE QUESTIONS, CLEAR ANSWERS
Both need judgement and communication. Engineering managers additionally hold responsibilities for people development, performance, staffing and team health. Technical leadership alone does not demonstrate readiness for all of these responsibilities.
Expectations differ. Maintaining enough technical understanding to ask good questions is important, but writing production code should not crowd out feedback, staffing and coordination responsibilities.
Seek supported opportunities to mentor, facilitate planning and practise feedback. Ask an experienced manager to review your evidence and gaps. Do not take on sensitive performance decisions without the authority and training to do so.
The dashboard currently compares CV evidence with Cloud Architect, Database Specialist and Engineering Lead benchmarks. These role hubs provide guidance, not ten separate live assessments. A CV-based skill match is not proof of ability or a verified readiness score. You can review extracted skills and use the available analysis and roadmap tools to plan development. Verified assessments, Skills Profiles and the recruiter marketplace are planned, not currently delivered by this upload.
